The Mafia, which is also known as Cosa Nostra is originally a Sicilian criminal society. During the end of the 19th century “offshoots” of the Mafia emerged in other counties including the United States. Chance of War takes place in the United States in current times. The site is based around three “families” who live and work in the New York city area. The three families known as the “Calderone Family”, the “Malone Family”, and the “Valachi Family”. All three families currently had a mutual respect for one another and were content to just live in peace until Joseph Valachi Sr. died and his son Joseph Valachi Jr. took over the family business. Young Joe hadn't even been in charge a week before he began trying to assert his dominance and run the other mafia's out of there territory area. While the Claderone and Malone family still have respect for one another the bond is weakening quickly as Young Joe continues his fight to be the biggest and the baddest. Everything is quickly getting out of hand and as Christine Calderone said to her husband,
“it's gonna be partly cloudy with a chance of war!”
